Elliot’s First Day at Club
On your first day of training with your new puppy your mind will be buzzing with excitement. It’s easy to get carried away wanting to show him or her every exercise on the first day. However, it’s important to remember that your puppy is a baby. They have a limited attention span, and their bones and joints are still quite fragile. An 8 week old puppy needs a lot more sleep and time establishing their routine with you than they need time on the Mondio field.
That being said, when you do go out to train, puppy sessions should be fun and kept short. It’s equally important to note the things that I’m not doing, as watching what I am doing. I'm not concerned about showing him every single blind, obstacle, strange surface, loud noise, or people. I’m not concerned about luring him every step and making sure he stays in heeling position. My only focus here is building drive and possession for his ball and me. This foundation is going to help Elliot stay focused on me and the opportunity for play as he grows. You should be ending the session before your puppy becomes tired and loses interest in the game.
