Starting Place to Place
This exercise is my foundation for all three Mondioring jumps, and even comes into play when I teach the Object Guard. Elliot is wearing a flat collar with a long line. For Elliot’s first session I’m not worried about precision. My goal here is just to show him the game. Place to place while still building that drive and obsession for his ball. Later on I will use food with this exercise to get more precise movement and positioning, but this was our first session and I wanted you all to see it for real.
When you start this exercise on your own, you will want to position the boxes just a few feet away from each other. Make sure that the long line on your dog is positioned such that it doesn’t become a trip hazard for you and you don’t accidentally step on it. You can use food or the ball to start and you want to lure your dog onto the first box and then with a quick movement lure them completely through the second box, turn around and position them back to face the first box. I ended Elliot’s session after 1 rep here as it was just a quick intro for him, but you can practice this a couple more times before ending with a longer play session away from the boxes, or a jackpot of food delivery. We will build on this exercise in future videos.
